ya girl has been dealing with the beginnings of plantar fasciitis 😫😫😫

I literally just stated with my run coach, we did an in-person track session and I walked away from that feeling a lil something every time I stepped in my heel on my left foot.

mega pros of paying someone money who’s job is helping others run because I would’ve just kept going lol we think it was brought on from me not doing any speed at all since my half (September 8), and jumping straight to a fast track workout (compared to like, a tempo or an interval run where you spend 10-15 minutes running slower as part of a warm up and you pick the pace up anywhere from 1:00-2:30ish minutes faster)

I’ve taken a week off of running, I’m being sure to add calf-specific strength back into my weightlifting that I got lazy and stopped doing a year ago, and I’ve been adding in feet/ankle specific peloton stretches and yoga sessions to help. I also finally got new shoes, my ghosts had 500 miles on them lol

I do still feel a little something when I walk but it’s not being made worse from running anymore, which is great because my poor besties have been only getting fetch and 30+ minute walks twice a day and they might as well be in a kennel 24/7 so send them T&P (thoughts & prayers) they need it.

I started with a run coach last week 🦮🏃🏼‍♀️💨

after ~self-coaching~ myself since high school aka combing through Google for random training plans, purchasing Hybrid from Natacha Oceane, and following The Lyss Method for a better part of this year, I think I’ve proven to myself that running is a hobby I can invest a tiny bit more financially into lol

I had my first in-person with him at the track on Saturday where he ran a few laps with me to assess my cadence (great) and my foot strike (quiet and light on my feet) and he had me do a few 400’s (one lap on the track), a mile (four laps), a 200m (the curve and straightaway) and a 100m (a straightaway) to see where I’m at speed-wise (so much faster than I thought 🥲)

it was incredibly reassuring to hear him say that my form seems great and strong and that I’m using my glutes and abs to propel myself forward (vs relying on hamstrings and reaching forward) and that I can somehow run a 22:00 5k right now, today 😳

and he sees no reason I couldn’t run a 19:30 5k. what 😳😳😳. I know I don’t talk paces here on purpose, but I held my high school cross country record for a 5k for 10 years (set in 2007 when I was a freshman), and that was a 19:36. this man is telling me I’m not that far off from running faster than that in my 30’s?????????? RUNNING IS SO COOL AT ANY AGE

hi I’m Kirstin and sometimes for no reason I physically cannot post for the life of me even though I’m still on here most days 👋🏼

here’s some fun facts about me since I feel like I’m a STRANGER 😭

I started running in middle school because I didn’t make the basketball team in 7th grade and I broke our high school cross country record my freshman year and held that record for 10 years, so I was ✨decent✨ at running, then obviously like most high school athletes, took a loooot of time off running before I picked it back up constantly in my mid-20’s when I started running with Rory. I’m no where near as fast anymore lol

I became an ✨ultramarathoner✨ this summer running my first 50k because I failed to reach a high speed goal twice last year and decided to shift to distance vs speed. BOY is a 50k a time suck lol I don’t see another one in my future

I take my besties on most runs with me. I don’t take them on speed workouts or long runs over 10 miles, so lucky for me these past few months I haven’t done any of that so every single run has been a good run with them 💙 I keep a spreadsheet to track our runs we’re at just over 650 miles together this year

professionally, I’m a graphic designer and recently picked up a larger part-time job on top of freelance and I’m still struggling with finding the balance between the two which is cool and fun and not stressful at all!!!

I physically cannot comprehend how you’re NINE????? which is hilarious because legally you’re only three with my evidence being that last slide. we love you SO much honey boy, you single-handily changed my life and all I hope is that I give you a good day every single day ❤️

when I tell people I have a 9 year old and a 5 year old dog, they ALWAYS assume Rory is the younger one not only from his lack of sugar on his face or body but he has not slowed down at all. I think the only big change is he’s getting ~softer~ in his old age, a lot more snuggly with us, slightly less growly at people he’s met a dozen times, and his desire for me to tell him how fast or slow we’re going is down the drain, he sets our pace and how often we stop to sniff on runs 😂

Rory’s actual birthday is October 7, and we didn’t take photos until late last week so I’m only a little behind here but don’t tell him pls

we got to try out @nonstopdogwear’s NEW harness, the Rush Harness, that seems like it was made for us, specifically 😍 everything Nonstop makes is a banger, but I’ve always said the Freemotion felt excessive for my dogs’ style of running (aka next to me). the Rush also has buckles so it’s way easier to put on (if you’ve put on a Freemotion, you know)
